The spark plug on your Mantis tiller needs to be changed every year (please follow our maintenance tips here).
Also, if the machine does not start, it may be because the spark plug is fouled or shorted and you have to change it. New spark plugs are available here or in our handy kit here for SV4 and here for SV6 Mantis tillers.
Important:
NGK and Champion spark plugs are the only recommended spark plugs to be used in Echo engines. The use of the correct type, brand, and heat range is very important in today’s emission certified engines. Never use spark plug manufacturers cross-reference charts. Cross-reference charts are approximations.
The plug will depend on the SV number on your engine; the gap will be the same for each engine – .024-.028.
The SV number of your engine is located between the feul tank and the carburettor, on a black and silver tab on the silver engine housing. It will consist of the letters “SV,” a number and another letter. Example: SV4A, SV4B1E.
How to change the spark plug:
You will need a spanner of 19:
a) Take off the cap:
b) Unscrew the spark plug with a spanner of 19 (spark plug spanners are available here for your Mantis tiller)
c) change the spark plug
